The Process Improvement Excellence Certification is a four tier certification process. To achieve PIEx status, you must successfully complete and pass four MSI certifications that demonstrate your understanding of process improvement methods and techniques. The four certification tiers are Lean Six Sigma Black Belt, Lean Six Sigma Master Black Belt, Continuous Improvement Manager, and Change Management. All four programs are included when you register and you can take the programs in whichever order you prefer. To learn more about these specific requirements, please see the Topics Covered tab.
The Process Improvement Excellence Certified (PIEx) certification, developed by the Management and Strategy Institute, is designed to highlight an individual’s commitment to process improvement and the reduction of process waste and inefficiencies within an organization. In today’s modern business environment, organizations need every advantage they can find over their competitors. Global supply chain issues, inflation, and rising prices put pressure on companies continuously. Organizations are constantly looking to hire people who know how to cut costs and improve processes. These skills lead to more profitability and more efficient operations.
How Many Certifications will I receive with this program?
You will receive five certifications. The PIEx certification is issued immediately after you complete the four certification programs. You do not need to take a 5th certification exam, only the exams associated with each of the four tiers:
Completing these four certifications leads to:

No, all four required programs are included when you register. You must successfully complete and pass the certification exam of all four programs to gain your PIEx certification.
The PIEx certification from MSI is an advanced-level certification. You must be able to complete and pass all four of the required certifications to achieve the PIEx credential.
All four programs include the information you’ll need to know and understand to pass the certification exam. These certifications are not designed to make you an expert on all facets of the subject. These professional development courses were designed to teach someone with little knowledge of the subject the basic skills needed to function as a process improvement specialist within your organization. Many executive jobs today require that their employees have at least a basic understanding of process improvement.
Each training course is self-paced. Time to complete and fully comprehend will vary with every individual. It may take several days or weeks of study before you feel comfortable to take the final test. You may take the final exam as soon as you’re ready. You have 1 year from the date of purchase to complete the courses.
All MSI certification exams are timed, with a limit of 1-3 hours. You may take the test online, from home or work whenever you are ready.
Participants who successfully complete this certification program will receive 110 Professional Competency Units (PCUs) from MSI.
You will be mailed five physical certificate & transcripts, which you can give to employers who request it. The certificate is heavy-stock, cream paper suitable for framing. You will be mailed each certificate individually, as soon as you complete each program.
You are registering for the Process Improvement Excellence Certified (PIEx)™ certification program through the Management and Strategy Institute (MSI). This certification is exclusive to MSI and you will be certified directly by the Institute upon passing, not a 3rd party certifying or accrediting body.
